TIRUMALA: Sri Sadagopa Ramanuja Swamy was coronated as Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Pedda Jeeyangar on Thursday. His ascendancy to the Peetham comes in the wake of the demise of the previous Pedda Jeeyangar, Sri Rangaramanuju Pedda Jeeyar last month.

Sadagopa Ramanuja Swamy was serving as the TTD's Chinna Jeeyangar ever since he assumed the holy seat in May, 2004. As is the tradition in the ancient Mutt, said to have been established by Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja himself, he stepped into the shoes of his senior after his demise and was anointed the Pedda Jeeyar today.

Names deputy

As is his prerogative as the ‘Pedda Jeeyar' to name his deputy, the Chinna Jeeyar, he has named his disciple, Srinivasacharya of Tiruchanur for the coveted seat.

In a brief address after his coronation, the Pedda Jeeyar said that he would carry forward the age-old traditions meticulously being practiced in all the TTD temples and would proceed strictly in accordance with the Ramanuja and Vaikhansa Sampradayas in the conduct of the daily rituals, fairs and festivals without giving any scope for any conflicts.

Tirumala 01 April(P.R.O) His Holiness Sri Sri Sadagopan Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy is coroneted as Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Pedda Jeeyar Swamy on Thursday morning. Speaking on this occasion the Pedda Jeeyar Swamy said that he will continue the path of the Ramanuja Charya and Vaikhansa traditions in the temple. He further said that the temple rituals and kaikaryams in the temples of the TTD would also be performed perfectly.

His Holiness declared Sri Srinivasan one of his disciples as Chinna Jeeyar Swamy of TTD. On this occasion Sri D.K.Audikesavulu, Chairman TTDs and Sri I.Y.R.Krishna Rao, Executive Officer TTDs also spoke on this occasion.

The Bio data of His Holiness Sri Sri Sadagopan Ramanuja Pedda Jeeyar as follows:

Born in Mayavaram i.e. Mayiladudorai in Tanjore Dist, Tamil Nadu. S/o Sri Krishnaswamy Iyengar. He came to Tirumala hills at the age of 6yrs and joined Sri Venkateswara Veda Patasala in 1960.

Studied Nalayira Divya Prabandham under Sri V.Ve Vidwan K.K. Yamunachariar Swamy popularly known as “ VADYAR SWAMY” and under Sri T.A.Gopala Chariar and Sri K.Sundaracharya Swamy and completed the course in 1970. Along with Nalaylira Divya Prabandham course he also studied Sanskrit, Upayukle Vedam and English.

Qualified and passed Divya Prabhandham course in first division. Passed Divya Prabandham in Veda Vidwat Sadas examinations conducted by S.V.Veda Patasala, Tirumala in first division.

Gold medalist in the examination conducted by Ubhaya Vedanta Acharya Peetam, Sri Perumbudur, the birth place of Sri Ramanuja.

From 1970, joined as Adhyapaka in H.H.Pedda Jeeyangar Swamy Mutt at Tirumala and served in Sri TT for about 10 years.

During 1981, joined as Adhyapaka (Nalayira Divya Prabandham) in Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Srinivasa Mangapuram for about 24 years till 2004.

During the above period for one year worked as Divya Prabandha Pundit in Dharmagiri Veda Patasala.

On 1 st May 2004, assumed the office of H.H. Chinna Jeeyangar and rendering service in all TTD Temples as deputy to late H.H.Sri Ranga Ramanuja Pedda Jeeyangar, TTD.

Coronation as H.H.Pedda Jeeyangar took place on 1.4.2010.

Sadagopan crowned as Pedda Jeeyar of TTD

April 1: Sri Sadagopan Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy was crowned Pedda Jeeyar Swamy of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Thursday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, the Pedda Jeeyar Swamy said that he would continue the path of Sriman Ramanujacharya and the Vaikhanasa traditions in the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala and temple rituals and kainkaryams in the temples of the TTD would also be performed perfectly.

The Pedda Jeeyar Swamy declared Sriman Srinivasan, one of his disciples as the Chinna Jeeyar Swamy of the TTD. The TTD Trust Board chairman, Mr D.K. Audikesavulu Naidu, the executive officer, Mr I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, senior officials and Vedic priests were present.

The Peda Jeeyar Swamy was born in Mayavaram in Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu. He came to the Tirumala hills at the age of six and joined the Sri Venkateswara Veda Patasala in 1960. He studied Nalayira Divya Prabandham under eminent Vedic scholars and completed the course in 1970. He is also eloquent in both English and Telugu.

In 1970, he joined as an Adhyapaka in the Pedda Jeeyangar Swamy Mutt at Tirumala and served the Tirumala temple for about 10 years.

In 1981, he joined as Adhyapaka (Nalayira Divya Prabandham) in Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Srinivasa Mangapuram and served there for 24 years. On May 1, 2004, he assumed the office of Chinna Jeeyangar, rendering service in all TTD temples as the deputy to the late Sri Ranga Ramanuja Pedda Jeeyangar.

In the 11th century, Sri Ra:ma:nuja:cha:rya had arranged for the people who perform personal service to Lord (E:ka:ngis) at Thirumala and established Pedda Jeeyar Mutt for controlling and organizing the temple activities. Pitam while Pedda Jeeyar matam is known as Ramanuja Pitam. Chinna Jeeyar becomes Pedda Jeeyar when the Pedda Jeeyar departs for Mokhsam.

In a book called ‘Sri Venkata:chala Ithiha:sa ma:la’, published during 1987 in Telugu language, all the details of TTD, including temple functioning, organizing and controlling activities, are explained in detail.
